DISKOVERY: LATE IS JUST A STATE OF MIND
by Fender Tucker
I recently spent a lost month in New Mexico so this issue is being
released even later than it would have been had I stayed in Louisiana and
worked diligently. Sorry. But there is one up side to the story: this issue
has some very good programs on it.
Bob Markland volunteered a couple of years ago to be LOADSTAR's "at
large editor" and this issue is a testament to his energy and interest. Two
of the programs are his -- an adaptation of the classic 1000 MILER game and
a new utility for programmers. Doreen Horne provides her enhancement of a
disk cataloging system, 128 DISK FILER; and Bill Laabs, who has recently
moved into the 128 field, fills out Side Two with his multi-function disk
tool, STAR BOOTER.
Bob has suggested that we work extra hard to get LS 128 #37 out to make
up for #36's lateness, and he's right. I've neglected LOADSTAR 128 lately
and the wonderful 80-column screen deserves better. Thank you all for
supporting the 128 mode. The next issue will be full of powerful,
compelling programs and will show up when you least expect it.
But we must be realistic. LOADSTAR 128 must end sooner or later and
after finding that LOADSTAR LIBRARY has to be revised slightly (see the
text for APPEND 36) to handle this issue's addition to the database, I'm
looking at LS 128 #40 to be the "last issue". We are no longer accepting
subscriptions beyond #40, in fact. Anyone already subscribed beyond that
number will be hearing from us personally, soon.
So we'll have four more issues of LOADSTAR 128 as a subscription
magazine. I expect to keep getting good 128 programs, however, so from time
to time after 1998 we'll have a "128 Special" sold as a standalone. Let's
see how it goes.
